Ujung Kulon National Park

Ujung Kulon National Park is one of the national parks in Indonesia. This national park state in Banten Province, Indonesia. There are special things in this national park, this national park is the only habitat in the world for critically endangered species, Javan Rhino.


1. Ujung Kulon National Park Characteristics

Ujung Kulon National Park (also known as Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon) is a national park that has extraordinary beauty. There are various zones exist in Ujung Kulon National Park, in example special zone, traditional zone, core zone, jungle zone, marine protection zone, utilization zone, rehabilitation zone, and religious zone. The villages directly adjacent to Ujung Kulon National Park are Ujung Jaya, Taman Jaya, Cigorondong, Tanggul Jaya, Kertamukti, Kertajaya, Sumberjaya, Tangkil Sari, Cimanggu, Padasuka, Mangkualam, Keramatjaya, Tugu, Cibadak, and Rancapinang village.

4. Ujung Kulon National Park Problematics

The main problem in Ujung Kulon National Park is the problem of encroachment on the national park area. This encroachment occurs because of the behavior of people who still depend on forest resources. Commonly used forest resources are land resources, fish, timber, and fruits from the forest.

One of the problems that are often the seed of conflict is the problem of land boundaries. Pal boundaries of Ujung Kulon National Park are often destroyed or displaced by the community for the benefit of land expansion. This conflict originated from the expansion of the state-wide Ujung Kulon National Park area, thus taking some of the land owned by the community.

Community forest management is a solution currently implemented by the Ujung Kulon National Park Authority. The current management of Ujung Kulon National Park already involves the community with the establishment of Rhino Monitoring Units (RMU), Rhino Protecting Units (RPU), and Masyarakat Mitra Polhut (MMP). Management system like this is done so that the surrounding community feel the benefits of the Ujung Kulon National Park.

In addition to problems in terms of conflicts between communities and national parks, problems with access have become a major problem. The road to the Ujung Kulon National Park is badly damaged and is very difficult for the community, especially in Taman Jaya and Ujung Jaya villages. This very difficult access makes the food prices in the village so high that the economic level of the people there is difficult to develop.
